World Kidney Day 2024

Today, on World Kidney Day, we not only raise awareness about the importance of kidney health but also reflect on our nation’s commitment to combating chronic kidney disease (CKD) and ensuring kidney health for all; as part of our overall commitment to Universal Health Coverage.

As we mark this significant day, it is essential to highlight some key initiatives outlined in the 2024 Appropriation Act that demonstrate our nation’s dedication to kidney health:

  • The Completion of Investigation and Provision of Portable Water to Chronic Kidney Disease Prone Areas which recognizes the link between clean water and kidney health.
  • Advocacy, Awareness Creation, and Community Mobilization across the six geopolitical zones are being conducted to educate communities on the prevention and control of Chronic Kidney Diseases.
  • Construction and Equipping of Kidney and Dialysis Centre, FMC, Nguru. This infrastructural development is a priority, with the construction and equipping of kidney and dialysis centers aimed at providing essential healthcare services to those in need.
  • Equipping of Completed Accident and Emergency, Kidney Centres, ICUs, and Additional Wards Complexes across the 6 geopolitical zones; ensuring that healthcare facilities are well-equipped to handle kidney-related emergencies, providing comprehensive care to patients.
  • The Provision of Further Research for Nutritional Contribution on HIV-Drug Interplay with Kidney, Liver, and the Heart which is vital in understanding the complexities of kidney health.

On this World Kidney Day, I wish to reaffirm my commitment as Chairman Senate Committee on Health (Secondary and Tertiary Services) of the 10th Senate National Assembly towards Kidney Health in other to ensure a healthier future for all.
