Earlier today, I had the privilege of attending a significant event in my capacity as Vice Chairman of the Senate Committee on Women Affairs of the 10th National Assembly. I joined fellow dignitaries at the National Institute for Legislative and Democratic Studies, in collaboration with UN Women and the Government of Canada, to discuss a critical topic: The role of legislators in enhancing gender-responsive legislation and budgeting.
This event presented a valuable opportunity for us to delve into the importance of gender mainstreaming in our legislative processes and budgetary allocations. We explored strategies for promoting gender equality and empowering women and girls through policy-making and resource allocation.
As a legislator, I recognize the significance of our role in creating an enabling environment for gender-responsive governance. I am committed to working with my colleagues to ensure that our laws and policies address the unique needs and challenges faced by women and girls in our society.
I appreciate the support and partnership of UN Women and the Government of Canada in this endeavour. Together, we can make a meaningful difference in the lives of Nigerian women and girls, and contribute to a more inclusive and equitable society.
