Her Excellency Senator Dr. Mrs Ipalibo Harry Banigo Calls for Action at the Maiden Joint Annual Review, Reaffirms National Assembly’s Commitment to Healthcare Transformation.

At the inaugural Joint Annual Review (JAR) for health sector stakeholders, Senator Dr Ipalibo Harry Banigo, Chair of the 10th Joint Health Committees, emphasized the National Assembly’s commitment to advancing healthcare. Key priorities discussed included revitalizing primary healthcare, targeted investments to protect vulnerable populations, and the establishment of a robust accountability framework to drive measurable outcomes across the health sector.

Senator Banigo praised the introduction of a revised accountability framework, describing it as a milestone for fostering responsibility across all levels—government, stakeholders, and communities. She emphasized that the framework would provide critical insights during oversight activities, helping to identify challenges and drive actionable solutions.

Her Excellency also commended the Ministry of Health for effectively utilizing vulnerable funds, marking the first time these funds were legislatively appropriated in 2024. She reiterated the National Assembly’s commitment to supporting healthcare initiatives, particularly in alignment with the renewed health agenda spearheaded by the President.

“We are determined to support these policies, not only through oversight but with increased budget allocations,” Senator Banigo stated. She further called for a substantial increase in domestic health funding, referencing the goal of meeting the Abuja Declaration target of allocating 15% of the national budget to health.
