It was an honour and privilege to give the Keynote address at the maiden edition of the African Women in Medicine, Health, and Wellness Conference, organized by the Medical Women’s Association of Nigeria and Focus Africa, filled with immense pride and optimism for the future of healthcare in Africa.

The theme of this conference, “Strengthening Networks for Prompt Diagnosis and Care,” is timely and critical in our ongoing efforts to enhance healthcare delivery across our continent. The subthemes – “Eliminating Cervical Cancer,” “Building Stronger Networks for Healthcare Professionals & Updating Knowledge – Learnings from the Field,” and “Promoting Holistic Health and Well-being, A Beautiful You” – each highlight vital aspects of our collective mission to improve health outcomes and well-being for all Africans.

Given my role as the Chair of the Joint Health Committees of the 10th National Assembly, I commend the efforts of galvanizing women in medicine, health, and wellness to achieve our shared goals. A few months ago, I presented the Legislative Health Agenda of the 10th National Assembly which among other issues, recognized the need to take necessary measures to improve the mobilisation and retention of human resources for health. Only when we have human resources can we strengthen networks for diagnosis and care, drive innovations in service delivery, and achieve laudable health outcomes.

SENATOR DR. IPALIBO HARRY BANIGO, SENATOR OF THE FEDERAL REPUBLIC OF NIGERIA.
