LEADERSHIP IS SERVICE, RESPONSIBILITY AND LEGACY – BANIGO REAFFIRMS COMMITMENT TO ADVANCING AFRICAN WOMEN
The Senator representing Rivers West Senatorial District and Chairman of the 10th National Assembly Joint Committee on Health, Senator Ipalibo Harry Banigo, has reaffirmed her dedication to promoting purposeful and value-driven leadership across Africa.
The former Deputy Governor of Rivers State made this known during her induction as Life Patroness of the African Women in Leadership Organization (AWLO), held in Port Harcourt on Saturday, February 28, 2026.
Describing the recognition as both a privilege and a call to greater service, Senator Banigo expressed appreciation to AWLO for finding her worthy to serve African women in that capacity. She reiterated her commitment to contributing meaningfully to leadership development rooted in character, competence, and consistency, and to supporting initiatives that empower women to take their rightful place in governance, enterprise, and community development across the continent.
During the event, the Rivers State Government pledged full support for her continued efforts. Governor Fubara, represented by his Deputy, Professor Ngozi Nma Odu, described the honour as well deserved, noting that Senator Banigo’s track record in public health, governance, and women’s advocacy reflects her enduring dedication to service and excellence.
In a goodwill message, the wife of the President, Oluremi Tinubu, whose message was delivered by Prof. Odu, said Senator Banigo’s advocacy for women’s empowerment, family values, and national development continues to inspire women across Nigeria and the African continent.
The event also featured the unveiling of AWLO’s 2026 Magazine, the relaunch of its Rivers State Chapter, and the presentation of an AWLO Certificate of Recognition to Governor Siminalayi Fubara by Senator Banigo. The certificate was endorsed by the organization’s Global President and Board Chairperson, Jewel Howard Taylor, former Vice President of Liberia.
Earlier in his address at the ceremony, the Founder and Global President of AWLO, Dr. Elisha Attai, emphasized that advancing women’s leadership through character, competence, and consistency requires renewed commitment to raising credible, prepared, and consistent leaders who understand that leadership is service, responsibility, and legacy.
The African Women in Leadership Organization (AWLO) is a non-profit organization open to women leaders across Africa and women of African descent. Its mission is to bring together female executives, professionals, and leaders to further advance the leadership status of women and fulfill the objectives of the organization.
